Let’s Pull Together For Haiti

16 January 2010 No Comment

Considering the horrible tragedy that happened in Haiti on Tuesday, It has been absolutely amazing to see everyone pull together. At the end of the day it all comes down to one basic fact. We are all humans living on this planet together. And rather than fight for riches, power, or land, we need to support, comfort, and uplift each other. It has been great to see the world’s countries pull together in this great time of need. Countries like the United States, England, and China just to name a few, are doing everything in their power to ease the pain and suffering of this poor nation. The only shame in this is the unfortunate fact that it takes an event of this nature to see us band together.

It’s not just countries either. Organizations like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army are doing wonders. But that doesn’t happen at all without the great individuals in this country and others. As much as I feel that we Americans have become so greedy and selfish, I also believe in the people of this great nation. In tough times we certainly show the kindness, toughness, and resolve that our forefathers taught us many years ago. When I see people selling their own personal belongings to donate to the cause or when I see online buy and selling websites like sellbits.com donating part of their profits to human charities it makes me realize that a lot of us contribute in some way to the common good. And for those of you, whether you’re a company, organization, or individual who do not contribute. Now is the time! There are so many good causes to choose from. Choose one that fits in with your beliefs. But for now we should all be concentrating on Haiti.

This is also a great time to be creating new and innovative ideas and ways to raise money for these people that have lost so much. It is not just relief for the people now, but can you imagine how much money it is going to take to rebuild Port-au-Prince. Probably more than any of us can even imagine. So find new ways to raise money and GIVE! You will feel so good about yourself. And you’re helping people that can’t help themselves. And that is the most important thing.

After seeing such an unbelievable response to this massive earthquake, it has given me new hope in the human and American spirit. The last time I saw it was just after September 11, 2001. Before that day people seemed only concerned with how much money they had in their pocket or how their portfolios were doing. You would see protests and flag burnings. After that memorable day all I saw in America were pictures of entire streets and blocks lined up American flags flying beautifully one after another outside of each house. This is the kind of spirit that we need now. We need to all pull together for this small, poverty stricken country. We need to put our own agendas aside for a minute and do whatever it is that we can to help get Haiti back on its feet.
